Sue needs a hug. :(

Yes. I did it again. I contacted a Christian publisher who claimed to be "offering more than CBA "fundamentalist" Christian publishers were offering" only to find they weren't doing that at all and had no real plans on doing so. I tried to stop Richard and Ceese from going after them but some things you just can't control. LOL

I was tossed aside like an old, dirty shoe (personally I like old dirty shoes just don't particularly like being treated as if I were one.) No problem really. I'm used to it. ;) But hey, if venting about it gets me a free hug then I'll take it.

Oh and I never would've contacted the publisher if they'd said who there market was from the get go. So authors be prepared for that. And CBA Christian publisher's are horrible about this. They'll simply tell you the market to the Christian market which is inaccurate. They market to the CBA Christian market. Learn the difference it will save you a LOT of heartache.

  1. You're more than welcome, Sue.

Small presses are a HUGE disappointment and even more so if they make promises, pledges or suggestions and ideas and then don't follow through with them.

This is why I have gone back to and will stay with self-publishing.

I found that though Lulu may be looked down upon, small presses can't and don't get your books carried on bookstore shelves either because to snotty bookstores, they are considered no better than self-publishing.

If you have a signing in a store and don't sell ALL copies, they box them up and send them back to your publisher (unless you are pals with the store manager and they carry them for you) and that's just how self-publishing is, so me...I've chosen to cut out the middle man (and headaches) and just self-publish.

    Love ya gal!

  2. And don't forget (according to LGG spies at last years' big CBA/ECPA con) Christian (TM) Paranormal Romance WILL be The Next Big Thing!

However, I'm sure they define Christian (TM) Paranormal Romance as "Just like Twilight, Except CHRISTIAN (TM)!" Of which the quickest, easiest, and laziest type is the "Nephilim Breeder": just cast an Angel (shekinah shekinah shekinah) instead of a Vampire (sparkle sparkle sparkle) for EDWARD (sigh). The target audience remains Bellas.

  3. CBA's audience is still and always has been and always will be a VERY denominationally discriminative nich market that EXCLUDES every other publisher out there and continues to infer that they don't. Like you, I could CARE LESS what they say is going to be big as yes, it will only be big for their exclusive targeted audience which NO won't appeal to general market readers or anyone else outside their exclusive market. Did I say exclusive enough yet? I don't think so.

ECPA is at least one step above them (which isn't very high) because they actually CLAIM their market and don't pretend they're something they're not to try to "pull one over" on unsuspecting readers.

HELLO Headless Unicorn Guy!!! ;D So glad to have you posting!
