Two Wonderful Reviews

Like every author just starting out, I looked forward to the day I ever received a good word from the likes of the Horror Writers Association or the British Fantasy Society. I never dreamed those good words would come as quickly as they have. I can't exactly recall how I ended up submitting Never Ceese to the BFS for review but I do recall it was shortly after I made the Preliminary Ballot for a Bram Stoker Award in 2007 for Superior Achievement in a First Novel.

I recall getting the review in my inbox and reading it thinking, "I think that was a good review." But the review was never posted and so I just kept it to myself. Round about the time my second publisher was ready to release Forever Richard, I was contacted by the BFS. "Aren't you going to let us review Forever Richard?" the email read. I had to read it twice. Did they really just ask that? Sure, "I replied," and sent a copy right over. Here's the link to that review:

Later that year, in December if I recall, I learned Forever Richard made the long-list. I didn't even know it was being considered so how nice that was even though I know now it only takes one vote. I've no idea how many votes I got but I know I got one.

When Electric Angel came out, I was contacted once again. "Could the BFS review this one as well?" Of course, why would I say no. Even before the review was posted the reviewer dropped hints that they loved the story. Then after some time I asked when they thought they might post the review. I was told the reviewers review was too short to post and that the one posting the reviews refused to post something so short.

Another two or three weeks went by and the review was eventually posted. The initial two word review was: "Simply Brilliant!

I do so enjoy that y'all love my work. Maryanne, I'm counting on sending you a copy of the next in my series. Thanks so much for all you and Craig do.
