British Fantasy Society's review of Forever Richard

Since the original review pointed to an edition of Forever Richard that is no longer available, (or at least wouldn't be if Book Masters hadn't dumped books belonging to my publisher to "returned from the bookstore" vendors), the BFS has kindly updated the book information on Maryann Boo's fabulous review. This is wonderful news considering all that is corrupt in the publishing industry. Thanks Book Master's, you so RAWK! I thought it was under handed for you to send signed and dated returned-from-the-book-store books to me as NEW!!!! I never dreamed you'd be as underhanded as to actually sell returned from the bookstore books to second hand vendors as opposed to returning them to a publishers stock as you say you do. Never Ceese PDF DRM free and personalized!

The future is here. Publishing is changing and publishers no longer have to depend on or even worry about seeking a distributor to get their work out there because the only thing distributors can offer small publishers and self-pubbed authors presently is nothing that the publisher can't do themselves and are already set up to do.

Examples?

Barnes & Noble and Amazon will now allow (oh how sweet of them) for small pubbed and self-pubbed authors to list their e-books in their on-line bookstores. And for that you pay them a percentage of sales to help thwart the cost (there is no cost really) of going through the process of making your book file DRM exclusive which customers hate. Oh yeah, they also handle sales transactions which small publishers already know how to do?

Has everyone forgotten that Barnes & Noble and all the other chain bookstores are the very ones who made it impossible for small publishers and self-pubbed publishers to get in their stores? Why in the world would any small press go there to list their e-book especially when they can list it themselves on their own site and get all the money from sales.

I do understand that some self-pubbed authors could benefit from the distributor handling the sales transactions but find an e-book distributor that offers your e-book to all platforms. Smashwords.com is a nice site for this and they understand what their job is.

But wait a minute! This blog is about ME!!!

You will notice a nice little addition to my sidebar on the right. It is a DRM free PDF of Never Ceese for you, the customer, to convert at will! That's right, I'm actually encouraging you to take the PDF to convert it to whatever format you need. I'll even go one step further and convert it for you if the task seems to daunting. Just let me know what format you'd like.

ALSO, the PDF will be signed and personalized. HOW COOL IS THAT! You can't beat that with a stick. This is only for the e-book you buy from the link above.

ALSO and by the end of the day I hope, I'll have things ironed out with Black Bed Sheet Books to INCLUDE this DRM free PDF with every print book purchase!!!!! Actually, if you buy a print copy from me from the link I'm about to add, (patience I'll get it up in a minute) I'll go ahead and throw the DRM free, personalized PDF in as a package deal.

So there ya go.

Stop looking to sites like Barnes & Noble and Amazon to help you as far as distribution goes. You're feeding the very folks who never recognized small press or self-pubbed authors as anything other than a nuisance. Actually, as far as I can tell, that hasn't changed. There are tons of other e-book distributors out there who will respect you.

I wonder if he's done so for his upcoming appearance on the cover of Black Bed Sheets release of Forever Richard. Either way there's a definite and drastic change. Hmmm . . . what do you think?

And so it begins. Authors Steve Lockley and Steven Savile now have 24 hours to come up with a story, 7-8,000 words in length, edited, proofed and delivered. OF TIME & DUST is set in a Victorian country manor, Birkin House, in Dorchester...home of Roman history, Thomas Hardy...and a past suicide in the grounds.

Steve Lockley and I have agreed to do something that may turn out to be completely foolish. Tomorrow at 12 noon (UK time) a title and cover art for a proposed chapbook will be revealed by Neil Jackson. We haven't seen it and won't until then. We will write a story inspired by this cover. It will be PUBLISHED in 24 hour...

Yeah! I'd say these guys are crazy but they probably wouldn't be able to pull this off if they weren't!!!

So Richard and Ceese are "normal" but they could become cursed again? I like it, you are an excellent author. Ceese seems like a sweet character.

Sue pinches self. Checks the alignment of the stars. Calculates PI *no not that PI*, sits at computer and checks to make sure she's not looking at someone elses inbox and finally traces letters on screen with finger to make sure thats HER book on the long-list!

What? What? What?

Just to demonstrate the impact this has had on me as a writer, "I DON'T CARE IF NO ONE VOTES FOR "Forever Richard." My absolute day and birthday has been made. Unbelievable. I'm . . . speechless.

Imagine what'd I'd be if it actually moved on to the short-list.

I may have to schedule a trip to the UK now to personally hug some people!!! ;D

By the way, Richard doesn't feel neglected anymore!

I am SOOOOO sick of Amazon!

Update: For the record Amazon has temporarily fixed the problem. LOL I heard nothing from them though. Just saw it was fixed.

Arrrrrrrr! I stayed after Amazon for months to change the book that showed up by default when my name was typed in as Never Ceese the hardback is no longer in publication and the paperback is. They'd eventually fix the problem only to "unfix" it a few weeks later. I've contacted them no less than five times on the matter and wouldn't you know it, they screwed it up again!!!!!!!!!

LEAVE MY PROFILE ALONE, once you fix it again that is. You're not helping anyone.

What is the point of Author Central if Amazon can arbitrarily change information at will? I already don't like you. Don't make me hate you toooooo!!!

It's bad enough you suggest buying books from a market that doesn't support authors such as myself along with my books. What is that about? If I could do anything to make Amazon stop listing books that come from discriminating publishers I would. Double ARRRRRRRRRR!

You can actually contact Author Central and I did, as usual. Here was my email to them:

Yes. I didn't get a message to inform me that you got my last message so I'm sending another. Author Central has screwed up yet again. They have Never Ceese the hardback showing up as the default book once more even after fixing it so the paperback shows up instead. This will be like the third time I've had to contact you to fix this. I will not wait seven days for you to fix it again either when it only takes Author Central ONE day to screw it up. The hardback is no longer in publication. The paperback is. FIX IT AGAIN. I'll now save this response as it seems Amazon can't do anything right for very long. ARGHHH!

British Fantasy Society Top twenty something!

I stumbled across this just a few minutes ago at www.britishfantasysociety.org.uk and I must say that even though I've no idea what this is a list of I do know that I like it. Forever Richard in the top twenty of some very grand books.

Perhaps placement on the list is superfluous yet being on the list isn't. Do read Maryann Boo's outstanding review of Forever Richard when you get the chance. :) Then go read Forever Richard or Never Ceese (paperback version) if you've not read Forever Richard first. It's a series after all. I'd certainly want you to get the most out of it.

Aw, check this link out Love Twilight? Try one of these similar books. Just keep in mind that though the poster referred to Never Ceese as Christian fiction, it is not published by a CBA/ECPA affiliated publisher and therefore not written for the narrowly targeted Christian market these publishers produce fiction for. It simply has a redemption theme that appeals to the readers who favor this market. :) That market doesn't recognize non-affiliated authors nor do they produce stories about vampires and werewolves or anything else as they feel it isn't something their audience wants to read.

The Bristish Fantasy Society reviews Forever Richard

A horror book in essence, both Never Ceese and Forever Richard caught the eye of The British Fantasy society's MaryAnn Boo . . . and I couldn't be more pleased. Coming from a smaller press than the "big dogs," I'm absolutely knocked on my butt every time I get a review like this. MaryAnn couldn't possibly know how much this means to me. When no other first line reviewers cared to notice, she did.
