Thought I'd dig this review back up. I solicited a local magazine here in the Jackson Area for a review early on, even before Never Ceese made the Bram Stoker Preliminary Ballot for 2006 for Superior Achievement in a First Novel. I was very pleased with Lynette's words. So glad she enjoyed Never Ceese. I attempted to find the link to the review but it's broken. I did notice that while other book reviews posted very rarely got more than 20 views if any, mine got over one-thousand. There was another review of another book on the same page though but that's the way the other reviews were done as well. So there ya go.
Do note that Black Bed Sheet Books is now the publisher of Never Ceese and my Thirsting for Blood Series. And the best place to purchase them are at my publishers website!

But you shouldn’t think that “Never Ceese” (Journey Stone Creations, 2006, $12.99) details a life like the one lived by Beaver Cleaver: Dent populates this book she calls a spiritual fantasy with other-worldly characters.
I, for one, never thought before to try this style of novel since I lean toward mysteries and Southerners who write about the South, but I found Dent’s tale of determination one I couldn’t put down. It gave me pause to read of Richard’s drinking blood he had warmed a bit in the microwave, blood he’s gleaned from sources found on his computer. Right away, I realized that Dent’s two main characters, Richard the vampire and Ceese the werewolf, break the stereotypical movie mold for these creatures. Getting inside their heads and learning what makes them tick is just one reward you’ll receive in reading “Never Ceese.”

A chapter by chapter blow of Electric Angel - sort of.
Dang it if somebody's gonna give me a chapter by chapter account I'm gonna write about it. Actually it's more like a synopsis of several chapters at a time because most can't read my stuff a chapter at a time but eventually they have to come up for air or eat! LOL And that's when I get reports like this:
So now I'm deeper in and my mind is abuzz with chapters 9 though 15!!!! I cannot believe the turn of events which has been thought out so carefully! Wow,I am yet again amazed by the depth of the dichotomy between the two boys!!! Again, I wish not to give away too much but,I am on the edge of my seat! I do believe that I know who Paul is!!!! And I just love the twins and the things they do! Makes me look at my twin boys all the more cautiously! Haha! Not to mention their age, so close to my own and the secret language they have between themselves! Again, LOVE THIS!!!!
Aw, you made me miss the story so much I had to go back and read what you were just writing about. ;) Yeah, so y'all see what you're missing. Too bad. Book Launch Par-tay!!!!!
First I'd like to thank Days of the Dead, Black Bed Sheet Books, Jim Sorfleet of sNs photography and Master Ron Fitzgerald for making this Book Launch particularly SPECTACULAR!!!
Jim will be there with a table set-up, Ron will be there at Kitty Zom's table and officially at mine from 2-3 P.M. Saturday to sign the cover he posed for. Don't even tray to complain that it's too far to come as I'll be driving/swimming up from Mississippi. ;D
I'll have copies of my Bram Stoker Short-listed Never Ceese republished through Black Bed Sheet Books as well as hard to find (unless they're stolen and being sold as new. Thanks Amazon, you so rock (yeah, that's sarcasm) copies of Forever Richard which BBS plans to republish later this year or early next year. ;)

I'm happy to announce that after one interesting trip to Chicago, where I learned the difference between Chicago PROPER and Chicago Heights, I have settled on the image I want to use. Sad, so very sad!
Never have I been more disturbed than to find on my writing journey that the very folks who enjoy my stories the most will never find them in venues where they shop and here's a fine example of why they won't. An excerpt from a blog I ran across today.
I was going to respond on the blog but no other comments had been left and I did not feel like targeting the blog specifically because I'm not "down with that." If someone has a narrow mind it is their God given right to have it. So I'll post here what I would've posted there if I didn't "roll" the way I "roll."
My response:
Did you mean "Christian" bookstore or simply bookstore? I can tell you for certain no "Christian" bookstore allows any book in unless it is sorted out as being from a targeted Christian publishing house or not (and they don't allow stories about vampires of lore such as those I write about.)
As an author who is a Christian, I write about vampires of lore. To this day and despite being approved for distribution to the "Christian" market, no "Christian" bookstore will take my work. But it's because I don't write specifically for their targeted audience of Christians and not what I write about.
It is every readers option to enjoy a book or not. Why can't we associate something irritating with Satan. How about stories about garden gnomes? That's it. No one can write anymore stories about garden gnomes. They are of the devil.
Lots of folks who follow Christ enjoy a good vampire story. I thank God for each and every one of them. ;)

Lincoln Crisler - continued!
Read the post before this if you haven't already:
Russ seemed like a dream come true
for a while, especially for my mother, but for me as well. He was a long-haired rocker, ten years younger than my mother (my wife can attest to the virtues of that particular arrangement, I assure you), his family was cool as hell and above all, he was there. They got married in a mass ceremony hosted by the local hard rock station and he worked occasionally as a roadie for an Eastern US/Canada party band called Nik and the Nice Guys. I had a lot of complaints about that time of my life, but looking back it made me who I am, set me up to laugh at struggles that drive others to their knees and generally speaking, I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. The first couple years of it, at any rate.
Eventually, Russ started in with the domestic violence against my mother, just like all the others. If this was a Lincoln Crisler story, the female protag would be giving off some sort of pheromone that drove men to commit violence against her. I don’t know how many times I had to call the police, or how many times one of my mom’s friends would come over and run him off. Eventually, he moved into his own apartment on the far side of the same building and my mom filed for divorce. When we moved across town after that, we never saw Russ again except for a couple times walking around downtown Rochester, from the far side of the street. Overall, this serves as a nice, long answer to that question many of my colleagues and I face: Why do you write horror?

Listen to the "big dogs" bark on ebooks!
Yes, I believe ebooks are another wonderful way to get your books to your customers. It isn't the end-all to everything but technology has certainly made it a fun venture. It's also done a FINE and glorious job of leveling the publishing playing field.
Perhaps the MOST entertaining part of this technology for me has been watching the "big dog" publishers react. With profit margins flying out the window, they're hard-pressed to justify charging as much as they do for ebook versions of their print book. How do they explain where the money goes when EVERYONE knows there is NO real cost involved in creating an ebook.
On to the heart of this blog. Someone posted this story on FB today. I read it. It tickled me to know end. I'm not going to explain the article. I'll simply post the link if you wish to enjoy it as much as I did. Here's the link.
I will say it's an article about HarperCollins so that the comment I post next will make sense. Here's the comment made by Harper Collins.
Wow! Really? The "book publishing world" is "agreeing" on things such as an international standard for ebooks? Did Amazon not get the memo? Did anyone outside of HarperCollins get the memo? Sure they did. Do you want to guess who comprises "the book publishing world" mentioned here? It ain't us small publishers I can tell you that. And according to them EPUB is an international standard?
Well slap me twice and hand me to my momma!

So yeah, if you want an ebook of Never Ceese show up 3-20-2011 at my virtual book signing to get your DRM free PDF signed and personalized and convertible to your ebook format of choice EVEN the apparent INTERNATIONAL STANDARD. Y'all gonna sit back and let the "big dogs" determine what the international standard is? Go ahead on then.

Oops! Sorry About the Shipping.

Never Ceese PDF DRM free and personalized!
The future is here. Publishing is changing and publishers no longer have to depend on or even worry about seeking a distributor to get their work out there because the only thing distributors can offer small publishers and self-pubbed authors presently is nothing that the publisher can't do themselves and are already set up to do.
Examples?
Barnes & Noble and Amazon will now allow (oh how sweet of them) for small pubbed and self-pubbed authors to list their e-books in their on-line bookstores. And for that you pay them a percentage of sales to help thwart the cost (there is no cost really) of going through the process of making your book file DRM exclusive which customers hate. Oh yeah, they also handle sales transactions which small publishers already know how to do?
Has everyone forgotten that Barnes & Noble and all the other chain bookstores are the very ones who made it impossible for small publishers and self-pubbed publishers to get in their stores? Why in the world would any small press go there to list their e-book especially when they can list it themselves on their own site and get all the money from sales.
I do understand that some self-pubbed authors could benefit from the distributor handling the sales transactions but find an e-book distributor that offers your e-book to all platforms. Smashwords.com is a nice site for this and they understand what their job is.
But wait a minute! This blog is about ME!!!
You will notice a nice little addition to my sidebar on the right. It is a DRM free PDF of Never Ceese for you, the customer, to convert at will! That's right, I'm actually encouraging you to take the PDF to convert it to whatever format you need. I'll even go one step further and convert it for you if the task seems to daunting. Just let me know what format you'd like.
ALSO, the PDF will be signed and personalized. HOW COOL IS THAT! You can't beat that with a stick. This is only for the e-book you buy from the link above.

Okay Lets Go Over it Again!
This is for aspiring writers who listen and read blogs posted by "published" authors who don't really know how the publishing industry works or ever worked but like to blog about it as though they do.
First off, it takes quite a bit of research to get the "truth" of the matter or if you're lucky you'll run across a link like this one here that explains it all quite nicely. ;)
Bottom line, Simon and Shuester started the return policy/"don't worry about sending the book back just rip off the book cover and send it to save on postage" during the depression to keep the then small bookstores/now chain bookstores from going under. The publishing industry has warped and mutated since then until no one knows what's going on anymore.
Sufficed to say EVERYONE involved in publishing makes money off an author's work but the author. And no small publisher can operate with chain bookstores as ALL chain bookstores operate by "large" publisher's rules thinking it's perfectly legal to send unsold, over ordered books back with the covers ripped off etc . . . and not pay for 3000 years after a book sales because that's the way "large" publisher have done it for years.
I'm still baffled that some really big name Small Press authors don't get this. They act like they don't know anything about publishing. It's right there for anybody to see. I certainly see it. There are more than 4000 copies of Never Ceese out there that I've not received one cent of royalty for and never will. Gotta love that!!! NOT!!!
E-books may give us authors and small press publishers to turn this all around but we've got to be smart about it. We have to learn from the past but dear Lord you have to know what the past is before you can learn from it. EGADS!

Since I, Sue Dent, have tackled the task of transferring these titles to e-book format for Black Bed Sheet books I will share that while the .PDB format reads fine, I've yet to find a way to tackle the translate accent marks when found in the text. I've checked and re-checked the other versions and found NO problems. You can see for yourself in the 20% preview that you can read for free.
Smashword's own style guide nails the accent mark as one of those codes they've yet been able to address with their "meatgrinder" so there ya go. Just wanted to let you know as BBS strives not to put below quality work out there.
If you want to purchase the $3.99 PDB version it will most likely print a "funky" character wherever a word is accented. There really aren't many but it is what it is for now.
Unlike Amazon and Barnes & Noble, SmashWords DOES NOT accept returns which is the way it should be. The publisher should decide whether they want to make a book returnable not distributors. Amazon and Barnes & Noble are distributors period. Also you get to read a 20% preview would should let you know right away whether it's something you want.
So support the CORRECT way to do things and purchase from SmashWords. The fact that bigger published authors are sticking with Amazon and Barnes & Noble should tell you a little about them. They aren't interested in providing you with quality fiction at a reasonable price. They're only interested in taking your money and as much of it as you'll let them.

This blog post I'm making here is not an advertisement for that site LOL but I do have a lot of friends who cross-post between there and Facebook. One of those folks, Debbie S., reminded me of a post she put on Shoutlife a while back and I just had to share it. Horror World reviews Never Ceese

Best-Sellers List
Found this at the bottom of a best-sellers list compiled for the week ending January 9, 2011 to "explain" a little about how the list was compiled? I'll not list the books as I don't feel the list is NOT representative of what's actually selling. No surprise there.
"Rankings reflect sales, for the week ending January 9, 2011, at many thousands of venues where a wide range of general interest books are sold nationwide. These include hundreds of independent book retailers (statistically weighed to represent all such outlets); national, regional and local chains; online and multimedia entertainment retailers; university, gift, supermarket, discount department stores and newsstands."
I only post this to help substantiate the fact that the "sales" this list is talking about are the sales a publisher makes to a book store Independent or otherwise. The only publisher that large bookstores (the ones that make the difference in this matter) buy from are large publishers and they do so in mass quantities regardless of whether the author is a bestseller or not. This is actually how authors become best-sellers.
In the early years of publishing it was expensive to print books so publishers (only large publishers existed at the time. There were no little guys.) called upon the bookstores to help them store the large number of books they had to print as they had large print runs in order to save money. The bookstores and large publishers worked hand in hand. No surprise that things still work like this today but it is important to know otherwise you might think a best-seller is determined by how many individuals are buying it. Not so at all. There is absolutely no way to track how many books sell to individuals via bookstores or all the venues that sell books.
Ironically, all the books that bookstores buy from large publishers to secure that publishers hope of another author making it to the best-sellers list never sale at all!!! The bookstore usually returns them at some point because they can. No skin off their back. By the way, that's why you'll never see anything but larger publishers books on these list. Bookstores don't buy books from small publishers and they certainly don't when, in order to survive the insane return policy, the small publishers makes their books NON-RETURNABLE and prints through a POD.
Ahhhh, the publishing industry. Gotta love it.
I apologize if you thought I was going to post that I made the best-sellers list. I'll not make one any time soon with the requirements listed above and t hat's EVEN if I sell more books than some of those authors on the best-sellers list. Because if I sell more books it will be my small pub selling them directly to customers or me selling them myself and those sales are counted. So the real best-sellers will never be known because there's no way to accurately determine the number.

Hardback of Never Ceese rights returned!
It is with great pleasure I post this letter today, having received it in 2009. Great pleasure indeed. So pay attention AMAZON because if you are selling the hardback of Never Ceese yourself it is because you are getting it from Journey Stone or whatever distributor they've managed to hold onto. If you sell the hardback of Never Ceese after today, you are selling stolen goods and I, the owner of Never Ceese the hardback will come after you. Hey, if I can't get what's owed to me one way, I'll get it the other. The rights are mine as of today. That goes for anyone else selling Never Ceese the hardback having acquired it through Journey Stone. Of course anyone selling it after getting it some other way is safe and please do enjoy whatever money you make of off the sell. ;D
But Amazon, LOOK OUT! Muhahahahahaha! Oh yeah, the letter:
Ask me if I'm going to have GREAT fun telling Amazon, Barnes & Noble and all the other chain bookstores that if they order Never Ceese the hardback from whatever distributor Journey Stone is using, (I suspect the hard to pin down Baker & Taylor) that they will be BREAKING THE LAW and IF they don't stop, I shall take legal action. And then I'll go after the distributor. HEY! If I can't make money, you can't make money. If you don't help me, I don't help you. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Fun indeed!!!!
