Do take a moment and check this fundraiser out. The overall funding is a huge number but only $7500 is needed to begin and hopefully the first on-line section of the three will generate funds for the rest of the project. This information is also in the project information as well. Thank you in advance for taking the time to check it out.

Just like Video killed the Radio Star . . .
Just like "Video killed the Radio Star" and "Internet Killed the Video Star," or so the songs go, one could easily say that technology killed the publishing world. In the publishing world however, it would be more accurate to replace "killed" with "changed." And for writer's around the world, it's a very welcome change at that.
For decades the publishing industry has struggled with the cost of printing books. It was so costly back in the day that the few publishers around would have to print thousands of each title at a time due to the expense of simply printing one. And then there was the dilemma of stocking the "all those books" until they sold or were returned to be trashed.
The few publishers around back in that time, utilized bookstores to help with this inventory dilemma and this worked well until the depression hit. Bookstores could no longer "afford" to stock large volumes of a publisher's books and then "pay" to have what didn't sell returned. Simon & Schuster rose to the occasion by allowing bookstores no charge for returning just the book covers from books purchased and no deadline on when those covers had to be returned (for credit.) The other few publishers of the day were forced to comply or "sink."
So you can see it hasn't been an easy road.
But publishers no longer have to worry about the cost of printing books, they can print-on-demand which means more economically priced books for readers. It's a wonderful day for publishers as far as the cost of operating goes.
Do keep in mind that most physical bookstores both Independent and large chain bookstores, don't order in volume (or at all in most cases) any book from any author or publisher that doesn't agree to abide by what has become an "industry" standard return policy that has not changed with the times. Therefore while it is every authors dream to show up in mass in one of these stores, it isn't a reality. That's okay. The dream will change as the reality changes but presently it means the best fiction out there can only be found . . . elsewhere.
My books are available for purchase at all venues where books are sold with of course the exception being availability at physical or brick and mortar bookstores. I've opted to "save" my publisher by asking that my books be made non-returnable. My titles will remain non-returnable, a classification that means I won't participate in any "industry" standard return policy (that no longer works for the industry,) until an updated return policy is implemented.
I would strongly recommend and ask that you purchase any of my titles through:
Since my books are POD through Ingram's Lightning Source, no other distributor such as Amazon or any other on-line retailer can get them for less. This goes for Kindle format and any other e-book format.
Here are the exact links for each of my titles, all formats, via my publisher. International shoppers should use Amazon and other on-line sites who can have the books printed in their respective countries thus saving on shipping. This is the ONLY time when buying from anyone but the publisher will actually save you money.:

My publisher reviews Never Ceese--only at the time, he wasn't my publisher.
Never was I more honored than when Nicholas Grabowsky offered to give me a review of my debut novel Never Ceese. I rethought my logic several times after I turned the story over to him wondering if I'd completely lost my mind. This writer had been heralded by Stephen King and Clive Barker as one of the best horror writers out there and scribed Halloween IV. Who did I think I was soliciting him for his opinion on my "first" attempt at writing?
Several times I sent him a message on Myspace (where he found me) to say, "really, don't worry about it if you don't have time. I understand" and other such messages designed to put me out of my misery and then . . . the review was posted. I read the first part peeking through fingers I'd covered my eyes with. Squinted as he seem to not really say one way or the other whether he liked the book and then gasping for breath at the finale.
No way did he write that, I recalled thinking.
No way!!
Framed and on my wall never to be replaced with another, the review hangs.
We kept tabs on each other after that and now I'm proud to say, still waiting for someone to pinch me and wake me up--that Mr. Grabowsky of Black Bed Sheet Books is currently my publisher.
Who'd a thunk it.
You may click here to read the review that did it for me. ;D
And you may go to http://www.goshopper.net to purchase all of my books and so many other wonderful stories.

I simply can't give Sue Dent enough praise for this work. I truly adored it. It read like the work of a master storyteller, its narrative virtually flawless. . . I highly recommend it and I can't recommend it enough.

Yes!!!!
As a few of you know, I've been working on the third book in my "Thirsting for Blood" series. And as ALL of you should know, most serious writers use editors. Since I had no publisher with my first novel, I had to find one on my own. I scoured the internet found a handful, took advantage of their sample edits and secured one who was head over heels the best editor I could ever hope for. She was also a part of a network and guaranteed a 2% error rate (or your money back,) which of course is nice.
Because of the phenomenal job she did, I could concentrate on the story. For anyone interested her name is Arlene W. Robinson. Also, for anyone interested, I used her with Electric Angel as well.
"But Sue, you're a published author? Doesn't your publisher provide an edit for you? I can't believe you're still putting out money for edits."
My current publisher does indeed edit most of the stories he publishes but he is one person doing EVERYTHING! Most Independent Publishers can't afford to hire the kind of editors most writers need to make their work shine. Therefore I go out on my own. No. I don't have the money to do this. I consider it an investment.
My second publisher did do the edit for Forever Richard so YAY I didn't have to pay for that one. But they were small at the time and did have a group of editors to work on each book they put out. As you're well aware, Forever Richard racked up several accolades before that publisher fell to the "non-industry standard/Industry Standard" return policy.
Well here I am now, pushing to finish up my third book in the series and I'm once again looking. I LOVE Arlene but she's a very, very, very busy lady these days. My second editor stopped publishing so I doubt she edits anymore . . . . but wait a minute!!!! I contacted her on a whim and it turns out she'd be more than happy to help me and is available.
What? What? What?
Happy dance all around!!!!
Yeah, it'd be great not to have to pay for my edits and get the quality job I need. But since mainstream publishers are the only ones who can afford this, I doubt that's gonna happen anytime soon.
But yay me and yay to you, my fans!!!!

Look out! I'm gonna pimp somebody!
There's a fresher than ever edition of The Everborn out there, reworked a little and dressed up a bit too. And I'm here to tell you if you don't grab yourself a copy it will definitely be YOUR loss!
I was going to share a review of sorts but when I went to Amazon, I saw that someone pretty much summed it up already. The review reads:
I do so like the comment in the review that reads: "You don't read this breed of book anymore, book stores just don't carry this style of epic horror like they used to, . . . " They sure don't because it's the Indie authors that are writing this stuff and mainstream bookstores don't accommodate Indie presses. The only "industry" standard return policy they use is one designed by mainstream publishers back in the depression to keep mainstream bookstores from going under. If an Indie press is forced to adhere to it, they will sink faster than they can swim.
The other comment this reviewer leaves coupled with the disturbing way mainstream bookstores operate leave one wondering. It reads: "I hope Grabowsky's stuff whips the genre back into shape.....if he can't do it, no one can . . . " I can only shake my head at this. When the best of the best can't even get the attention of mainstream bookstores and booksellers what hope do any of us have. If y'all started worshiping Grabowsky tomorrow for his talent, it wouldn't be soon enough to make up for the years you've wasted looking for something epic.
Someone recently said to me, while reading The Everborn, that they thought Grabowsky should start writing again. I told them that I knew for a fact why he didn't do this. Because writing for him is everything. Stopping to take a piss becomes a monumental effort when he's building a story. He can't leave the story. He eats, breaths and lives the story and you can hardly do that and run a publishing company. When you're that caliber of a writer, it's hard to justify that kind of dedication.
Anyway, check out The Everborn, the best horror/fantasy/UFO novel you've never heard about . . . until now. Here's the link where you can purchase it: Black Bed Sheet Books

They don't make books like this anymore, and I wish they did. I'll never look at aliens or demons, damnation or even folklore the same way again.....Grabowsky totally takes contemporary mythology and turns it on its head, creating an epic that's exciting, scary, and fantastical. You don't read this breed of book anymore, book stores just don't carry this style of epic horror like they used to, and I hope Grabowsky's stuff whips the genre back into shape.....if he can't do it, no one can. I tell you, no horror fan should live without reading this dark masterpiece! For those who read books based on reviews, this is really the only review you need to read (honestly though, since "a good sample" is available for most EVERY book, I think looking for reviews to sway is ridiculous. That's just my opinion though.) You should most always be able to trust accolades though. And this one has accolades from the like of Stephen King and Clive Barker.

Did you know . . . ?
DID YOU KNOW that no site that advertises they have my books, either Never Ceese or Electric Angel or the soon to be released Black Bed Sheet version of Forever Richard, can actually sell my books for less than what my publisher can sell them for? Nor can any site be competitive with the other. They all get the standard discount. If they list the book for less, you will pay the difference in shipping. If they offer free shipping, they will up the price of the book. There's absolutely no benefit to buying my books from anyone other than:
DID YOU KNOW that you will never find an e-book copy of the Black Bed Sheet version of Never Ceese or Electric Angel listed anywhere EXCEPT at Black Bed Sheet Books where you can get a non-Amazon, non-Smashwords KINDLE or a non-B&N Nook? That's right. Amazon, Smashwords and Barnes & Noble ALL allow for the e-books they list to be given away for free through their nifty lending library WITHOUT the publisher's permission. Smashwords does so by allowing B&N to list an e-book if it meets certain easily obtainable requirements. Black Bed Sheet e-books are instantly downloadable and oftentimes filled with nifty extras! ;) And you can also read a sample chapter to make sure it's of the quality you expect before you purchase. So there's no point in looking anywhere other than at:

DID YOU KNOW that no large-chain bookstore, and specifically Barnes & Noble, will order a copy of Never Ceese or Electric Angel for their store even though I've been short-listed for a Bram Stoker Award in one instance and long-listed for a British Fantasy Award in another instance, have had wonderful, resounding reviews from best-selling authors and from some of the best fans in the world? Nope. They won't order any book for their store if a publisher doesn't make their books returnable according to an "industry" standard return policy designed to save failing bookstores during the depression. A return policy that was never designed to work for small publishers and barely works for large publishers anymore. You can order my books through the large bookstores all day long though. However, they don't get any more of a discount than anyone else. So absolutely no reason to buy anywhere else than straight from my publisher at:
DID YOU KNOW that because I have so many readers from one particular targeted market of Christians that I had my books approved by Spring Arbor so those targeted "Christian" bookstores could carry my books as Spring Arbor suggested they would? Didn't work though. Large "Christian" bookstores only order books for their store that they feel doesn't offend their target market. Not only will they not order my books, even though they've been approved, but if someone orders it through them, the book is sent straight to the customers home and the customer has to pay shipping. So I had my books unapproved as I don't play that! Again, just another reason to purchase my books at:
DID YOU KNOW that even if I write something here today that inspires you to go straight to my publisher and order my books and you do so in mass and even in numbers greater than any best-selling author as sold books before, I'll not make the New York Times best-sellers list as that list is compiled only of books that sell to bookstores and not customers? And guess who won't buy my books for their store? That's right, large bookstores and most Independent stores only do so on consignment and in small numbers because they can't afford to do anything else. So PLEASE, for the love of GOD and all that is right and good, or all that is bad and evil whichever is your preference, DO NOT BUY MY BOOKS ANYWHERE OTHER THAN FROM:
DID YOU KNOW that so far I've lost more money than I could ever hope to make back because none of y'all believe the publishing industry is the way I say it is. Can't afford to lose much more. If you don't move fast and buy my damn books you're going to be stuck reading authors such as Meyer and Rowling for the rest of your days. If nothing else that nightmare scenario should spark you into action. At least 75% of the publishing world is made up of Small Published Authors. It stands to reason that this is where some of the best authors are as well. Wouldn't it be neat if you could actually get their books and Small Publishers and authors could actually make money selling them? Think about that when you go to bed at night and happy nightmares.DID YOU KNOW that no large-chain bookstore, and specifically Barnes & Noble, will order a copy of Never Ceese or Electric Angel for their store even though I've been short-listed for a Bram Stoker Award in one instance and long-listed for a British Fantasy Award in another instance, have had wonderful, resounding reviews from best-selling authors and from some of the best fans in the world? Leaving for "Lockdown at Bellbrook" Thursday!!
Here's the linkage "Lockdown at Bellbrook" to prove I'll be there along with my friends of RIP Chris Matheny and Kimberly Brouillette. You can check the link to see who else will be in attendance. Much of what is going on this "spooktacular" weekend will be televised--well that should be interesting--for your viewing pleasure.
I of course will be there selling and signing my books, one of the rare opportunities you'll have to actually visit and talk with me and we all know you want to do that!!!!!
Why rare?
Well because no large bookstore will let ANY author in unless they sign on to make their books returnable via a return policy (designed to save bookstores during the depression) that will sink all small publishers eventually and is actually taking its toll on large publishers now. Yes. My books are returnable but not in regards to that insane "industry standard" return policy so not even the local Barnes & Noble in Dayton Ohio will allow me to visit you there. Way to go B&N!! You so RAWK! *Sue wipes sarcasm spittle from mouth with back of hand.*
So Bellbrook is just another effort on my part to "get out there." So come visit and come buy. I'll have my 2007 Bram Stoker short-listed Black Bed Sheet books edition of Never Ceese as well as that "electrifying" Electric Angel.
For the record, even though B&N won't order my books to carry in their store, you can order ALL DAY LONG at Blackbedsheet.goshopper.net (you can order it at ANY bookstore including B&N I'd just prefer if you not order it from those scumbags if you're going to order.) In fact, this is the only place you should buy my books as they can give you the best price AND you can order any of my books in a variety of instantly downloadable e-book formats there as well including but not limited to Kindle and Nook. I don't list my Kindle e-book on Amazon and never will. I don't list my Nook e-books on B&N and never will. Of course that means it will never show up on a "best sellers" list even though it may sell well enough to deserve to be there but HEY, it ain't about the numbers anyway. Or is it?
Enough already! ;D
Come to "Lockdown at Bellbrook" and we can talk there!!!

Non Amazon review
***Update***
Non-Amazon review turned into a 5 star Amazon review. Gotta love that!
*************
Most of my readers won't post on Amazon but rather just send their thoughts of appreciation to me. Love it!! Keeps me writing you know. So here are a few words from a new fan who will be buying Forever Richard from me until Black Bed Sheet Books comes out with the Special Edition copy later next year. So with out further ado:
Sue,
You have left me with so many questions, why is Richard and Ceese's father a vampire now? Penelope is not dead- she is a vampire again? And is she Richard's love interest or is there something going on between Cassie and Richard- or does only Cassie want something to be going on. So Richard and Ceese are "normal" but they could become cursed again? I like it, you are an excellent author. Ceese seems like a sweet character.
Make sure you send me your address and who to make the check out to. Have a great week!
Your friend, Susanne Lafaye
Love that so many of my bigger fans are named Susan, Suzanne or some variation thereof. ;D
Love all my fans and soon to be fans. You are what keeps me writing. Okay, I'd write anyway but you give me purpose. ;)

Sue Dent to speak at MS Writers Guild
Don't miss this if you're in the area! ;D
Main Street Books - Hattiesburg Mississippi
October 2, 2010
2:00 P.M.
Do keep in mind when the label Christian vampire series is used with my work it means that my work appeals to those readers who favor reading work targeted for a specific belief system. It doesn't mean that I'm published by fee-paying, discriminitive "Christian" publishers. I'm not. They don't put out work like mine as they don't feel their core market readers are interested in horror. Well, at least not unless it's targeted, watered-down and not horror at all.
Fancy that!!! ;D
So very excited that this is being held at an INDEPENDENT Bookstore and not a larger chain store who is only in business to provide larger publishers with a store front--PERIOD!! YAY!!!!
Hope to see you there.
And thank you MS Writers Guild (specifically Jamie O'quinn) for the opportunity. What will I talk about? Why whatever I fancy of course! ;D

HorrorFind 2010 - Aftermath

Awww, it was great! Picked Nicholas Grabowsky up in Memphis to continue the trek to Nashville where the following day we met up with Two-Foot Fred, Nicks got pics of that but Fred was great. He talked about a reality show he was going to be in called Two Foot Six! One of Black Bed Sheet Books new authors, Jeremy Jaynes grew up with Fred and that was interesting to hear about too. Really enjoyed meeting Fred.
Next stop Gettysburg where I got to meet up with lots of old writer friends, Kim Paffenroth who actually drove this time if I'm not mistaken but not nearly as far. HA! And met quite a few new friends. Quite a few pics to post and the Black Bed Sheet Books meet and greet went well. Of course the party went better but parties have a way of doing that. ;D
Francy of Francy and Friends did a live blogtalk radio show during the party and Nick and co-host Jason Gelhert were able to get quite a few celebrities including Edward X. Young or Mr. Hush of Mr. Hush the movie soon to be released (hoping to go to that convention the weekend before the Vampire Film Festival,) Jake Busey, Dee Yoder (I think that's her last name) or rather the mom from E.T.! She looks just like she did in the movie too. Oh yeah and Sue F*@ing Dent!!! LOL You had to be there. But oh wait, you can be. Just listen to the broadcast here!
And now without further delay pics and things of what you missed if you didn't come. ;)

My favorite Zombie author and good friend Mr. Kim Paffenroth! Great picture Kim (and Jason Gelhert who took it.) ;D

I got to meet Gary Busey. Jake was on the show.

Black Bed Sheet Books meets the Duct Tape Alien.

Nicholas Grabowsky and Jason!
Video of Nicholas with Duct Tape Alien. Listen close at the end and you'll hear her say that she spent $100 dollars on duct tape.

Me with Bill Mosely from Repo the Genetic opera. This was for my daughter. Bill threatened to whistle that whistle to bring the monsters. It's a long story. LOL

Me with Nivek Ogre. Another picture for my daughter who LOVES Repo.

A prospective new fan! Thanks Pam!
